You probably have a bunch of unused domain names and want an estimate of how much your domain portfolio is worth.

Whether it is simply because you are curious or because you want to sell a domain, you should use a domain appraisal tool, instead of trying to “guess” what your domain is worth.

On the flip side, there have been plenty of cases where seemingly low-value domains may be super useful to a brand or business that centres around it. Those cases are rare and it is like winning a lottery!

If you are considering buying a domain, read through this to understand what is considered a good domain name.

GoDaddy Domain Appraisal

GoDaddy domain appraisal tool

GoDaddy has a free tool that helps you to check how much your domain is worth and generates a short report that you can print out as well.

What’s good

  • Completely free to use, no restrictions on the number of domains you can evaluate
  • Besides the $ value of your domain, the report highlights the reasons why your domain is worth this price.
  • Details about similar domains that have been sold – very helpful, makes it real
  • Printable report

Estibot – Free domain appraisal and domain investment tool

Use Estibot to check domain value

Estibot allows you to check the value of 2 free domains per day. Beyond that, you will need to sign up for their paid plans, starting from $29 a month, capped at 150 lookups / day.

What’s good

  • Estibot seems to have a completely contrarian view compared to GoDaddy. For example, this domain, wpcubicle.com was valued at $598, while Estibot valued it at less than $100.
  • Estibot gives you very interesting reasons why your domain is not valuable.
  • It helps you to look for buyers / sellers for the domain that you are interested in.

In Conclusion

I looked for more domain appraisal tools out there and there are quite a few, but only these seemed liked the most reliable domain value checkers, which is why I haven’t added any more.

Also, be sure to understand how to transfer a domain successfully as well, before you decide to buy or sell one.

Any domain evaluation tools that you know of that should be on this list?
