Automattic recently launched Jetpack AI Assistant to help content writers leverage AI without leaving their WordPress Editor. I chanced upon Jetpack’s new AI Assistant on ProductHunt, and was itching to try it out.
[ez-toc]Luckily, there’s a free version available which I was able to install and use. The free version has a limit of 20 requests. The Pro version is priced at $10 per month and has no limit on the number of requests, as of now, but there’s a note clearly warning users that it might change in the future…
Please note that as we continue to grow and evolve our services to best meet the needs of all our users, we may consider introducing an upper limit on the number of requests in the future.

I installed the free plugin from WordPress.org and followed the steps listed in the ‘How to get started’ section here to get started.
Getting started is simple enough even for a novice.
I wanted to see if I can use it to write a complete post, so I asked Jetpack’s AI Assistant to write about itself. I tried two iterations and here are the results. I did not modify that bit at all – no changes to the text or formatting.
- First Iteration – it was too verbose and hard to read, so I tried again
- Second Iteration – the text was too long, so I had to prompt it to continue writing, and as you can see, the formatting was a little messed up because of that pause. My fault I am sure, and I think it should be easy to figure out how to iron out that wrinkle I guess.

If you are new to ChatGPT and are not familiar with prompts, this can simplify things for you. If you are already an expert at getting ChatGPT to create content, headings or titles for you, then you may not find this exciting.
I don’t quite like the tone of the writing by AI tools in general. but that’s on me I guess, I am still not able to get it to write like a human.
Also, I wasn’t able to verify Jetpack’s claim that ‘It can help you optimize your content by suggesting headlines, subheadings, images, and even keywords.’ I couldn’t figure out how to get it to suggest images or keywords.
I think ultimately any tool is only as good as the one who uses it – I will need to learn how to use this effectively to really write the way I would like it to, possibly give it examples of writing styles that it can copy. Either ways, I think an AI tool can only complement and help a writer, not fully replace one – at least not right now.
